Discover, monitor, and control your kiosk over MQTT

1. Settings

Reconnect MQTT after changing these settings.

1.1. Enable Discovery

Make the kiosk available in Home Assistant, including its online/offline status.

Default: false

1.2. Device Name

Optional display name for the kiosk. Leave blank to use Webview Kiosk and the app's instance ID.

Default: (blank)

1.3. Discovery Prefix

Match the MQTT discovery prefix configured in Home Assistant.

Default: homeassistant

1.4. Status Topic

Match Home Assistant's MQTT birth/status topic.

Default: homeassistant/status

2. Setup

Configure Home Assistant's MQTT integration.

Enable MQTT in Webview Kiosk, and configure MQTT → Connection to use the same broker.

Open MQTT → Home Assistant, turn on Enable Discovery, and optionally enter a Device Name.

Connect or restart MQTT using the controls on that screen.

Find the kiosk under Home Assistant's Settings → Devices & services → MQTT.

For background monitoring, enable Settings -> MQTT -> Use Foreground Service.

3. Controls

Navigate and scroll the page, clear history or cache, lock the kiosk or device, and launch apps from the kiosk's Home Assistant device. Use its text controls to open a URL, search, or send a toast message or notification.

Saving a command text field sends its value immediately.

Navigation needs an active WebView. Lock device requires device owner permission. Notifications require both the app's notification setting and Android notification permission.

4. App settings

App settings appear as switches, number fields, dropdowns, or text inputs. Administrator-managed settings cannot be edited. Password fields stay blank and never reveal saved passwords.

Text input limits

Text inputs accept up to 255 characters. Longer existing values leave the input blank. Edit longer values in the app. Saving a text or list setting replaces its entire value.

5. Status

Status sensors report battery level, current URL, screen state, kiosk lock, brightness, and last interaction.

Use the Refresh buttons to fetch status, app settings, device information, or launchable packages.

Each refresh result remains unknown until its button is pressed. Open the result sensor's attributes to view its details.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Device missing: check that both systems use the same broker, MQTT discovery is enabled in Home Assistant, and the discovery prefixes match. Restart the kiosk's MQTT connection and check MQTT → Debug Logs for failures.
  • Entities disabled: enable them under Home Assistant's Settings → Devices & services → Entities.
  • Removing the device: disable discovery and reconnect to the same broker so the kiosk can remove its entry. If you changed brokers, reconnect to the old one.
